Proficiency entries count towards top teacher points, but will receive points for entries only (i.e. no placements). Student/Student entries do not count toward top teacher placements.

Uncontested entries count at 1/2 point value.

Trophies will be presented to the following:

Top Male and Female Students in each of the Newcomer, Bronze, Silver and Gold levels for American style and International Style Single Dances & Top Overall Student in all Styles.

Placement Points for Students for each Pro/Am Entry Top awards for Pro/Am students are based on the number of entries and placements. Points between levels cannot be combined. (This chart also applies to Placement points for Teachers:)

Proficiency entries earn 1 point per entry.

Trophies will be awarded to the Top Studios in the following categories (points are calculated from all entries and placements):

  • Small Studio | 1-3 competing students
  • Medium Studio | 4-6 competing students
  • Large Studio | 7 or more competing students

Total Pro/Am Scholarship Cash Prize Money: $48,600 (Open $21,600 & Closed $27,000)

Closed Bronze, Silver & Gold Scholarship Prize Money per event for American Rhythm, Smooth, International Standard and Latin in divisions for: A (18-35), B (36-50), C (51-60), S1 (61+), S2 (71+) Prizes: 1st – $200, 2nd – $150, 3rd – $100

Open Scholarship Championships Prize Money per event for American Rhythm, Smooth, International Standard and Latin in divisions for: A (18-35), B (36-50), C (51-60), S1 (61-70), S2 (71-75) & S3 (76+). Prizes: 1st – $400, 2nd – $300, 3rd – $200

To qualify for all scholarship events, a student must enter a minimum of 4 (Smooth) and 5 (Rhythm, Ballroom, Latin) Pro/Am single dances per scholarship event entered. All scholarships are unisex competitions for adults. Closed scholarships are restricted to Bronze, Silver & Gold students. Please remember that the closed scholarships are restricted to closed syllabus figures (Bronze restricted to Bronze Syllabus and Silver restricted to Bronze & Silver Syllabus, etc). Open scholarships are not restricted to any figures. In any scholarship event with fewer than three entries, the organizer reserves the right to eliminate the age and sex divisions & merge competitors into one division and reserves the right to cut the prize money amount in half.

  • Students may NOT enter both Bronze & Silver scholarship levels in the same style.
  • Students MAY enter both the Silver & the Open scholarships in the same style.
  • Students MUST enter the scholarship level of the highest single dance entry level in a style.

For example: If a student enters single dance entries in Full Bronze and Pre Silver they would be eligible for the Silver Scholarship NOT the Bronze Scholarship in that style.

Emerald Ball Professional Theatrical Showdance Championship

Prizes: 1st -$1,500, 2nd -$1,200, 3rd -$1,000, 4th -$750, 5th -$750, 6th – $750

To receive the full prize money in any Professional events, there must be a minimum of 6 participants. If there are less than 6 participants, the organizer reserves the right to cut the prize money amount in half.

Kids Day Awards


Single Dances – 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medallions will be awarded.

All Multidance Events – A 1st Place Trophy and medallion will be awarded to the winner. Finalists will be recognized with medallions for 2nd – 6th place.

Solos – Medallions and critique sheets will be awarded. (Due to our tight schedule, we will only accept 5 Solos at 2 minutes max. per Solo.)

Formations – Medallions will be awarded. (Due to our tight schedule, we will only accept 5 Formations at 3 minutes max. per Formation.)

LFN “Leading Follows Network” Scholarship Rules

  • Scholarship Qualifications: In order to compete in scholarships, you must dance the same number of single dance entries as are included in each scholarship event.
  • Bronze and Silver scholarship events are closed to bronze and silver students only.
  • Students may dance in only one scholarship per style, and it must be in the highest level in which they danced. Example: If a student dances in the full bronze and pre-silver single dance levels, the student may enter the silver scholarship only.
  • Material should be based on the N.D.C.A. requirements.
California Gold Rush

Series Finale


The Emerald Ball is the Series Finale event of the California Gold Rush DanceSport Series. Accumulation of points earned from callbacks and placement at the Emerald Ball, in addition to points accumulated from all other circuit events, will determine the winners in each category.

Emerald Ball is a member of the Global Dancesport Series. Global year end recognition for teachers and students!

  • Teachers and Students collect points at every Global Event
  • Cash, vouchers and trophies awarded at the end of the year.

Emerald Ball is a member of the World Pro/Am Dancesport Series event. The top 20 students at the Emerald Ball will receive $100 voucher. Accumulation of points earned from callbacks and placement at the Emerald Ball will determine the top 20 students who will each receive a $100 voucher that can be used towards Pro/Am entries at Series events outside.
