Located in the heart of Los Angeles, California, USA, the Emerald Ball Dancesport Championships has made a reputation among ballroom competitors as being, like nothing else, both on and off the dance floor.

"I can honestly say it was one of the most enjoyable Ballroom competition experiences that I have had in my 8 years of competing." GLORIA LAUGHTON ALLSTON
PRO/AM COMPETITOR

With origins dating back 57 years, the Emerald Ball is a cornerstone of American dancesport, for all dancers—including those new to the competitive scene, and those hoping to capture a ranking on the national scene. As one of the top three competitions in the United States in terms of both size and prestige, the Emerald Ball is an enjoyable and awe-inspiring event for anyone who loves ballroom.

The Emerald Ball Dancesport Championships holds the record for the most entries at an independent dancesport competition ever.

While numbers are impressive, the Emerald Ball is equally proud of its accomplishments off of the dance floor. Known for its creation of a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the Emerald Ball prides itself on excellence in customer service and hospitality.

Wayne and Donna Eng

The Organizers

For Wayne and Donna Eng, the Emerald Ball is not simply a competition, it is a part of who they are. As former professional competitors, Wayne and Donna, competed at and promoted the Emerald Ball for years prior to purchasing the event in 1989 from ballroom icons, Ken and Sheila Sloan. In 1994, they became the sole organizers, a pinnacle moment for Wayne and Donna, who considered the Emerald Ball so memorable in their own dance careers.

From competing at the event professionally in the 1980s, to chasing their growing children around the dance floor in the 1990s, to building and operating it as one the most prestigious ballroom competitions in the US today, the Emerald Ball is near and dear to their lives and hearts. For those who attend the Emerald Ball, this adoration is palpable, contributing to its reputation as an experience truly like nothing else.

Wayne and Donna Eng also own and operate Dance Vision, a world leader in ballroom education. In addition, Wayne Eng has served as the Executive Vice President of the American Ballroom Company and Competition Director for the United States Dance Championships since 2005.
